A hair transplant consent discussion is a chance to understand the proposed procedure and decide which questions still need an answer. A signature should follow an explanation you understand. This checklist helps organize that conversation; it does not assess whether a particular procedure is suitable for you.
Start with the proposal for you
Ask the clinician to describe the procedure being proposed, the areas it would address and the limits of the plan. If your first conversation was online, ask which parts of the proposal remain preliminary and what still needs an in-person examination. Keep a copy of the written plan so you can compare it with the explanation given at the appointment.
Write down unfamiliar terms. For example, ask what the clinic means by a graft estimate, which units the estimate uses and how any change would be discussed. You can read our guide to grafts and hairs in transplant quotes to prepare questions about counting terminology.
Ask about benefits, risks and alternatives
The NHS describes informed consent as involving information about a treatment, its benefits and risks, reasonable alternatives and what happens if treatment does not proceed. Its guidance is written for the UK; it is useful here as a conversation framework, not a statement of Armenian law.
Ask the clinician to explain these points for your own circumstances. Request a plain-language explanation of the uncertainties rather than relying on a headline success figure or a photograph of another patient. Ask which alternatives should be considered, including whether postponing a decision is an option to discuss. This article cannot identify the right alternative for an individual reader.
Identify the people responsible for your care
Ask who will explain the plan, who will perform the different parts of the procedure and who will answer questions afterwards. Record names and roles. If you receive different explanations from a booking coordinator and a clinician, ask the clinician to resolve the difference before you decide.
Ask how the proposed technique relates to the plan and what its limitations mean for you. A technique name alone does not explain the complete procedure. You do not need to translate an unfamiliar term into a decision before it has been explained.
Review the documents in a language you understand
Request enough time to read the relevant documents and note questions. Ask whether translated information or an interpreter can be arranged if needed. If a document and a verbal explanation appear inconsistent, point to the exact wording and ask for clarification.
Keep treatment discussions distinct from package prices, travel arrangements and promotional photo permissions. Ask which documents relate to each subject and request copies. Do not assume that agreeing to receive a quotation also answers questions about a procedure or public use of photographs.
Clarify what happens after the appointment
Ask how follow-up will be arranged, whom to contact about concerns and which records you can take away. For patients travelling internationally, the CDC emphasizes planning for follow-up and obtaining medical records. Ask how those arrangements would work in your particular case, including any separately charged services.
Bring a short unresolved-questions list
- Which parts of my plan are confirmed, and which remain provisional?
- What risks and limitations should I understand for my circumstances?
- What alternatives should I discuss?
- Who will answer questions and provide follow-up?
- Can I receive copies of the plan and relevant documents?
Use the clinic contact page to request a discussion about the proposed plan. This checklist is educational preparation, not medical or legal advice and not evidence that a consent process has been completed.
